It can, though many people learn faster because they actually see the objects. A reasonable compromise is to use it to confirm what you found manually.
What power do these need?
More than people expect, and cold batteries fail fast. A dedicated power pack is a common early upgrade, since an alignment lost to a dying battery mid-session is a frustrating way to end the night.
Can I add GoTo later?
Sometimes, depending on the mount. Retrofitting is often close to the price of a new mount, so it is worth deciding before buying rather than after.
