Corrections are the most useful thing you can send. Astronomy carries a lot of figures that get repeated from book to book without anybody rechecking them, and if something here is wrong we would rather fix it than defend it. Include the source if you have one.
Also worth sending: a link on this site that lands somewhere it should not, a product listing that has changed to a different item, and questions about which build suits a particular situation. Storage space, transport and how far you have to carry a telescope change the answer more than budget usually does, so mention those.
Before you write in
Three questions arrive constantly and are answered better by a page than by a reply.
- Which telescope should I buy? Start with how to choose a telescope, which works the decision in the order that actually matters, then the three complete builds for what the whole kit costs.
- Why does my telescope not show what the photographs show? Because human night vision is nearly monochrome. What you can see by aperture sets out honestly what each size shows.
- Can I look at the Sun with this? Only with a certified full-aperture filter fitted over the FRONT of the telescope. Never with an eyepiece-end filter, which can crack while you are looking through it and cause instant permanent blindness. Read how to observe the Sun safely first.
