A dedicated camera captures far more, requires a computer at the telescope and a real learning curve. Start with the phone adapter, because the Moon is the best first target and you already own the camera; move to a dedicated camera when the phone becomes the limit.

The phone meters for the dark sky and overexposes the Moon. Tap to focus on the Moon itself and drag the exposure down, or use manual mode. This one adjustment fixes most disappointing lunar shots.
Can a phone photograph deep sky objects?
Modern phones on a tripod can capture wide constellation shots and even the Milky Way. Through a telescope, deep sky is beyond them: exposures are too short and the sensor too noisy.
Is astrophotography expensive?
It can escalate very quickly, and tracking mounts are where the cost really sits. Starting with the Moon through a phone tells you cheaply whether you enjoy the process.
